Because sometimes pretty clothes are the best motivation to hit the gym.
Now that we are officially through January and into the dead of winter, the drive to go to the gym everyday or head out on that morning run can start to fade. Oftentimes snuggling under the warm covers for an extra hour sounds way more appealing than rushing off into the freezing cold temperatures outside. However, one of my tricks for overcoming this winter workout slump is setting out my clothes the night before. It also really helps if those clothes are something I look forward to wearing, make me feel good, and look cute.
Not only do nice looking fitness clothes get me to my workout, but I also firmly believed that they help me have a better session once I am there. This may be harkening back to my time as a junior tennis player, but I have always felt that when I love my outfit, I am more confident, and therefore perform better. Whether this is all in my head or not, it can’t hurt. Have a browse below for my favorite fitness retailers and my top picks from each.
Outdoor Voices – This brand is a relatively new discovery for me. I purchased these leggings and fell in love. They are the most comfortable/movable material and I adore the color blocking on many of their pieces. The brand focuses on high quality basics, perfect for any type of activity. I can’t wait to try more from the line.
Sweaty Betty – A London based company with some of the most durable gear that I have tried. Not to mention, their patterns are so fun and creative (I’m obsessed with their new goat print). They also make some of the best sports bras, I am a big fan of this one for yoga.
Lululemon – The old standby and I have to say their clothes are so popular for a reason, they actually last. I have pairs of Lulu leggings from college that I have washed countless times and still look as good as new. (The trick is to air dry them rather than tumble dry). My hands down favorite item from the brand are the Align pants. There has never been a more comfortable and flattering pair of leggings ever.
Varley – They come out with some of the best prints season after season and are definitely the brand to turn to if you want to mix up a primarily black workout wardrobe. Their pieces always go together nicely, but can also be mix and matched with others in your wardrobe to make a slightly more exciting ensemble for 6am spin.
ADAY – I have yet to try their Throw and Roll leggings, but have heard and read nothing but rave reviews. They look comfortable, stylish, and like they would be great for a workout or even just running errands. I love smaller companies like this one that perfect one item before branching out into a bunch of other product. These are definitely next on my wish list.
