The top three that I use up until the last drop.
Over the years I’ve learned the importance of cleansing my face. In all honesty – throughout college, I almost never took my makeup off before falling asleep, preferring to brush my teeth and climb into bed in record time. Unfortunately this little routine led to not only some pretty grim looking pillowcases but also quite a few unwanted breakouts. One fateful day I made a trip to the dermatologist to discuss these pesky zits and finally learned the importance of using a gentle cleanser every morning and night. Miraculously, my skin started to improve after following this wise advice (along with the help of some trusty retinol cream).
Thus, I think that all great skincare routines start with an incredible cleanser that not only takes off the day’s grime, dirt, and makeup – but also throws in some extra goodness to make your skin feel fantastic, soft, and smooth, never dry, red, or stretched. A great cleanser should prep your face for the rest of your skincare routine and help your skin absorb all the lovely nutrients in your serums, moisturizers, etc.
Below are my top three picks for cleansers that take off makeup and prep your skin beautifully. They also happen to be completely free of synthetics, natural, and cruelty free. For the record, I have combination skin – super oily T zone and very dry chin area. I’m especially prone to redness and irritation.
I use this as the first step in my nightly skincare routine on days when I’m wearing makeup. It is a gorgeous oil cleanser that removes all my makeup and leaves my skin feeling super moisturized, not stripped. A little goes a long way – apply one pump all over dry skin and then pat off with a cloth soaked in warm water.
This is typically my second cleansing step at night as well as the cleanser that I use every morning. It is creamy and again moisturizing. I also love the scent; breathing in roses in the morning puts me in a better mood! I wet my face with warm water, massage in one pump of the cleanser, rinse off, and then pat dry gently with a towel.
This might be my favorite of the three and where I would say to invest if you are just dipping your toe into the natural skincare waters. It is a bit of a hybrid product and can be used as a first cleanse, second cleanse, or as a mask. I tend to use it as a mask in the morning as I am making my coffee, after I have cleansed my face with the Shiva Rose. Leave it on for about 20 min and rinse off for completely cleansed, hydrated skin on mornings when you really need that extra glow. Bonus: It smells heavenly – like chocolate almonds, so you will definitely be in the mood for breakfast afterwards.
I hope you enjoyed this little cleanser edit and let me know in the comments if you have any favorite natural cleansers.
