A little assortment of everything I loved this past month from leggings to tea…
October was a bit of a whirlwind with a slew of travel, planes, trains, and automobiles – spending time in both Nashville and Seattle. Both trips were so memorable – enjoying lots of great times with friends and family as well as a little relaxation. Therefore, most of my top picks this month turned out to be travel related. Have a read below for all my October favorites and ramblings.
French Girl Organics Face Cleanser – I picked up this cleanser on a whim as I was heading out of town that particular weekend and the bottle looked pretty small – aka portable. After a scan of the stellar ingredients list, I decided to give it a try and ended up falling in love. In fact, now I don’t just use it for travel but it serves as both my daily morning cleanse and second cleanse at night. Overall, it feels perfect for my oily/combo skin as it is lightly clarifying, but does not foam or strip at all. My face is left feeling refreshed, but never squeaky. The only downside is the small size of the bottle – I think I am already on my third. However, the price point is reasonable and each bottle is glass, so easily recycled!
Beautycounter Dew Skin Tinted Moisturizer – Another JGJ inspired purchase that I am using up to the very last drop. This tinted moisturizer is a lovely clean SPF that does not feel or smell like sunscreen at all. It applies smoothly and I love mixing it with a few spritzes of rosewater as the last step in my morning skincare routine. The coverage is very minimal but it does leave a lovely, glowy finish – perfect as a foundation primer or pre-concealer. This is certainly an alternative for the Josh Rosebrook Nutrient Day Cream and feels slightly less heavy on the skin. I use shade number two, which I believe is more or less universally flattering due to the sheer nature.
Ilia Balmy Nights Lip Exfoliator – Not sure about you, but my lips tend to get overly dry in the Fall/Winter months and I think we can all agree that flaky lips are not only annoying but can be painful as well. The answer to this problem is typically some form of grainy lip exfoliant – although many are too harsh and can leave your lips feeling more irritated than before. Not to mention that they typically come in pot form – so frustrating to have to dig your finger in there and then what – wipe off the excess? This Ilia scrub solves all those grievances as it is formulated with nourishing oils and waxes that leave your lips feeling moisturized rather than raw after scrubbing and it comes in a convenient stick. Perfect no muss, no fuss and my lips for once feel hydrated during this transitional weather. (I like to apply this balm after my skincare routine, pre-bed).
Chunky Knit Cardigan – Another epic Zara find. This sweater is just about the coziest number I have ever slipped into. Massively oversized, it is perfect for snuggling up in during this time of year when a full on coat is not entirely necessary. I would suggest pairing it with something slim on the bottom – either skinny jeans or leggings as you don’t want to be swallowed whole. 🙂 Also, I highly recommend this one if you have any upcoming plane travel for the holidays – serves as the best blanket, pillow, coat etc.
“Leather” Leggings – You might think I am insane as these are made by Spanx, but I am not kidding when I say they are the most comfortable leggings I have ever worn. I could laze around in them all day, yet they still look super chic and pulled together for wearing out. Pair them with a chunkier knit sweater/turtleneck and embroidered ballet flats and you are good to go! In fact, I wore them on my recent cross-country flight and then out to dinner later in the weekend and they worked like a charm for both situations.
M. Gemi Felize Driving Moccasins – I have my mom to thank for introducing me to this shoe line and now I can absolutely see why she is such a fan. M. Gemi shoes are crafted out of high quality Italian leather and are extraordinarily comfortable, but also chic. I snagged a pair of their driving moccasins (The Felize) in blue, (living out my blue suede shoes dreams), and am happy to slip them on with a pair of worn in Levi’s at the drop of a hat. The Felize is a classic style that they offer, but I would highly recommend signing up for their emails if you are interested as they drop new limited edition styles every week. How cute are these, these, or these.
Yogi Lemon Ginger Tea – I have been a long time fan of Yogi teas. Honestly, not only are their flavors tasty but I enjoy the packaging and positive affirmations on each bag. On a whim at Whole Foods the other week, I picked up this flavor and have found a new go-to. I am a devotee to hot lemon water first thing in the morning in order to kick start digestion and settle my stomach before diving into breakfast, but while travelling it’s not always possible. These lemon ginger teas served as a nice replacement for my morning ritual while staying out of town.
Goop Magazine – As you may have gathered from this post, I am a bit of a Goop fan. Everyone has an opinion about Gwyneth but I believe that she has created a wildly successful business and her recommendations are always on point. After receiving the first volume of her new quarterly magazine this month, I was instantly hooked. The articles are short, sweet, to the point, and the imagery is stunning. (Plus there are some excellent recipe ideas)! This is the type of editorial that you could easily display on your coffee table for months to come.
That’s it for October – I hope everyone had a great Halloween!! But honestly I am just so excited that we have now officially turned the corner and Thanksgiving is on the horizon – one of my absolute favorite holidays. 🙂 Let me know in the comments below any new discoveries or bits you have been loving lately.
P.S. I mentioned this TJ’s seasoning in last month’s favorites, which is still one that we reach for nearly every day. Now I’ve been seeing this one pop up everywhere and definitely think it’s next on my grocery list!
