My top discoveries this past month including the best lip balm money can buy and an addictive vegan bacon recipe…
I say this every month, but November seriously flew by. With the excitement of Thanksgiving and the onset of the holiday season, I always find this time to be super inspiring and full of energy. We had a lovely time this year spending a long weekend with my parents in Philadelphia for Thanksgiving, (all three pups in tow), and seeing Andrew’s mom and sister mid-month. Now I am seriously looking forward to our trip to California in just a few short weeks! Happy Holidays and read on below for my top finds of November.
W3LL People Blue Mascara – Yes I know, I am talking about this mascara formula yet again. Are you tired of hearing me go on about it? I promise this is slightly different as I picked up my fave formula in an indigo color and am even more obsessed than before. Full disclosure – my inspiration for picking this up came from a Fat Mascara episode with Tata Harper, (the queen of natural beauty), who explained that she wears this indigo shade as it is slightly more subtle than black. You only catch a glimpse of the beautiful blue tint if you look up towards the sun. I have found this to absolutely be the case and have been reaching for this wand daily. It provides the same mega lash lengthening properties and separation as the original, but feels slightly less va va voom for every day.
Bottega Organica Lip Balm Vanilla – With the onset of cold winter months (ugh), comes all the dry, cracking skin as well. Unfortunately for me, this also means that my lips start to flake and feel akin to sandpaper if I don’t attend to them. Thus, when I discovered this ultra nourishing, olive oil based balm that smells like a dream, I immediately gave it a whirl. I am so glad that I did as now I seriously cannot be without it. If it’s not on my person for reapplication sessions throughout the day I feel naked and panic. Kind of exaggerating – but really this formula is a miracle worker and worth every penny.
Gucci Mules/Loafers – I know, I know these are a super splurge but hear me out on this one. These shoes are classics for a reason. They break in within one wear and the only way that I can describe the leather is buttery. They are the ultimate in terms of comfort yet classic chicness, that get better with every wear. I would even venture to say that if I could only own one pair of shoes it would be these. I slip them on in the morning and my super sensitive, weirdly shaped feet never ache once. Furthermore, they just make any plain outfit feel elevated with minimal effort. I will certainly be wearing mine all winter with socks as well. Trust me, if you decide to invest, you will not regret this purchase and it is one that I feel confident I will have in my wardrobe forever. I went with the classic black, but if you are daring enough to go with red I say do it! Also, the brown is stunning.
Gray Green Goods Big Zip Bag – This one is not necessarily a fashion fave, but it is an accessory so I figured it would nestle in nicely here. I am immediately drawn to anything indigo in color and the Shibori dye on these makeup bags instantly drew me in. Each one is hand dyed, unique, and made in the USA. Also, the inside is lined and wipes clean – so perfect for easily cleaning any errant beauty stains. It also stashes a surprising amount – I can shove in all my daily wears with plenty of room to spare. With travel season officially upon us, this is a lovely item to pick up for yourself or as a gift. It is not only practical but also gorgeous to look at and I love catching a glimpse of it peeping out of my hand bag.
Kaleidos – A new to me, highly curated boutique based right here in DC. The owner Amanda could not be any nicer and has the best eye for picking out one-of-a-kind cool girl classics. Her shop features high quality basics like Lacausa as well as incredible vintage finds. She also has a beautiful selection of jewels (I have been eyeing this) and some excellent footwear – hello Veja! I have certainly done some damage here since discovering Amanda’s shop at the Take Care pop up this month – this sweater is dreamy. Even if you are not local to the DC area, have a browse of her online shop (plus everything comes packaged to your door beautifully in pretty millennial pink).
Yeti Rambler Tumbler – Okay my life has officially changed for the better once this entered my life. Andrew picked the tumbler up for me after hearing my qualms about stopping to buy coffee/tea nearly every day at the local coffee shop. And wow – I am addicted to it. I can make a hot mug of tea before I leave for work in the morning and by noon, when I finally get around to drinking, it is still hot. Truly if you are trying to cut back on your daily coffee shop routine, this traveler mug is your answer.
Deliciously Ella Brussels Sprouts and Vegan Bacon Salad – I mentioned wanting to try out this recipe in a recent Weekend Wellness as we are always up for testing out new smoky plant based flavors. Thus, Andrew went ahead and cooked it up right away. Wow is truly all I can say. The rice paper vegan bacon is probably the best we have ever concocted and I am now addicted to the cashew cream. Bonus – it makes more than enough for the salad, so keep the leftovers as it serves as the perfect dip/spread for extra vegetables, pita, or chips. I can absolutely see this recipe becoming a routine weekly menu item.
Zest Tea – Along with my Yeti mug, I have Andrew to thank for introducing me to this miracle tea. I have been filling my cup up with the apple cinnamon flavor nearly every day on my way out the door. The genius of this tea is that it provides all the energy boosting factors of a cup of coffee without the resulting jitters or stomachache. I cannot say enough good things if you are looking for a coffee alternative.
P.S. The other night while watching Shark Tank, these two former Wall Street girls came on for their overnight oats on the go, Mush. All the sharks raved about the taste and they scored a deal with Mark Cuban. I am now super curious about the product and would love to give the oats a try. I think that they would make a perfect low sugar option for travel.
I hope you had a terrific November!
