What I would take to a desert island.
Today’s post is all about my ride or die products. You know the ones that you use down to the last little nub and rely on to get out the door every morning. They are like little secrets that make you feel semi-presentable each day in order to take on the world. I love reading these types of posts as I am eternally nosy and enjoy a good peek into someone else’s makeup bag. Thus, I figured why not share my holy grails on here for anyone curious. I have mentioned previously that this past summer I whittled down my routine to one that is fast, yet effective and I can slap on my face in ten minutes or less. I believe it was the makeup artist at my wedding who said, it should take you the same amount of time in the morning to put on makeup as it takes a man to shave. I could not agree more wholeheartedly with this sentiment and intend to carry this mindset into Fall, with the same edited grouping of makeup favorites. Of course I do have more makeup than what is listed here and occasionally will switch around or add in an extra, (think a little eyeliner, smudged at the lash line for a night out), so wild and crazy! But what is listed below are my holy grail products – the ones that I always repurchase when they run out and use every single day. Many of these will be repeats that you have heard me wax on about before, but they are so good that I figured they are worth another mention. Without further adieu, read on for my daily makeup routine – simple, natural, and best of all quick!
Jane Iredale PurePressed Powder Foundation and Handi Brush – This one should come as no surprise seeing as it’s already been on the blog quite a few times. During the summer months, I really came around to the whole powder foundation thing. I find that this formula suits my oily/combo skin and sinks in beautifully, infusing a light glow that looks completely natural, with light to medium coverage. No primer necessary here and I love that it contains SPF 20 – I use the shade Golden Glow. Also, this brush is incredible, a little pricey but worth every penny. I simply swirl it in the compact and swipe all over my face – takes one minute tops and as long as you clean it properly, the brush will last forever. (P.S. I love good old Dr. Bronner’s for cleaning all brushes – the almond scent is dreamy).
RMS Beauty Un Coverup (Shade 22) – Mentioning this miracle product for the one millionth time seems a bit redundant, but it is what I use and love so therefore I could not leave it out. Quick, easy, and chock full of good for you, top grade ingredients like coconut and jojoba oil – you need to give this a try. It covers under eye bags, redness, puffiness, and blemishes without ever looking obvious or cakey. Rather, it sinks right in and leaves a slight dewy finish that manages to make your skin appear healthy even on your most exhausted, double espresso kind of morning. Some days I can get away with just dotting this on, sans any other base products. I use my ring finger and pat beneath my eyes, around the corners of my nose where it gets red, and on any other errant blotchiness.
W3LL People Expressionist Mascara – I have talked non stop about this product since I first started using it. Mascara is my number one makeup choice and it is what I would take with me when stranded. I have pretty much said all there is to say about my love for the formula in this post. Rest assured, it is still my absolute top pick – in fact I think it’s just about time for a repurchase. Is this my third or fourth tube? I have completely lost count.
LashFood BrowFood Tinted Brow Enhancer Gel in Dark Blonde – I don’t like to do too much to my brows since they are already quite dark and full. However, I do find that a little comb through with this gel keeps them in line so I don’t look too crazy with errant hairs that somehow shoot out in all directions. Bonus, it is full of nourishing ingredients that help brows fill in a bit thicker over time if you are working on growing yours out. Pro tip – start at the outer corner and fill in that bit first before moving onto the “sprouts” above the inner corners of the eye for a more natural finish. You want the majority of product at the ends where the brow is naturally a bit darker.
W3LL People Bio Brightener Stick – This is the most natural looking highlighter that I have found and melts perfectly into your skin, never leaving a telltale sign or stark stripe. You simply look lit from within, a little why yes I always glow – ideal for day or night. A testament to how much I love this product – my stick is down to the tiniest nub where I have to use my fingernail to scrape out the last bits (grim). How often does anyone actually make it all the way through a stick product? I throw this on the tops of my cheekbones, inner corners of eyes, and cupid’s bow. Pat in for just a moment to remove any edges and you are good to go.
NU Evolution Bronzer shade 202– I would be lost without bronzer and think that we could all use a dusting of it to add a little extra dimension to the face. The key is to find a formula without shimmer as that can read a little too obvious in certain lights. Fun fact – this one actually is just a regular powder foundation that I purchased a few shades warmer and darker than my natural skin tone. When I was at Credo a few months ago, they shared that tip with me in order to find a natural finish bronzer and recommended this product. Honestly, the makeup artist was completely right and I’ve been sticking with the finish that this non-bronzer bronzer provides. I use this brush to apply (another must have multi-purpose tool that is cruelty free and terrific quality), swirl it in the pan and haphazardly swipe it on right below the cheek bones, top of the forehead, and down my neck.
RMS Lip2Cheek in Vogue Rose – Last but not least in my sprinting out the door routine, I pat a tiny bit of this balmy blush onto the apple of my cheeks with my pointer and middle fingers. It takes approximately 30 seconds before it has melted into my skin and puts forth just a little color so that my overall complexion looks slightly more awake. Right now I am loving this limited edition shade that I mentioned in my monthly favorites. However, if you can’t get your hands on it – demure is my long time favorite for that subtle, sun kissed pop of color.
And that’s it – seven products in less than ten minutes and I am ready to take on the day. Let me know in the comments below what some of your ride or die, holy grail makeup essentials are. I love hearing what others rely on/the workhorses of the makeup top shelf 🙂
P.S. When feeling extra fancy or when going out at night – I love to swipe this onto my eyes in the shade lunar for a touch of brightness.
