Warning – once you buy one pair it is hard to stop…
Today I wanted to pop in and chat about the core of my wardrobe/my kryptonite – denim! Specifically, classic Levi’s jeans. I adore a good fitting pair of jeans and end up wearing mine to death as it is what I am most comfortable in and I think that they are just so versatile. Depending on the cut, fit, and wash you can wear denim for almost any occasion and I certainly take advantage of that fact. I believe that nothing can make you feel better/more confident than that perfect pair of broken-in jeans, which you know will look amazing every time you slide them on. I currently own my fair share of denim (aka way too much), from designer to less expensive alternatives and really do love all the versions I own. However, over the past few years it has been classic American Levi’s that have stolen my heart.
A little while back, the brand seemed to reinvent itself by reintroducing it’s vintage fits via the 501 originals line. Focusing on the classic rises and materials of vintage Levi’s denim (which dates all the way back to 1873), they successfully reimagined a line of quality styles that somehow seems fresh, lends a cool edge to any outfit, and most importantly flatters. The key factor here is that they removed the stretch from their denim, which leads to a stiffer fabric that does not become misshapen and slouch in unattractive ways after a few wears. Additionally, they have managed to maintain their reasonable price points, which is a huge bonus for such high quality staples. Below I have rounded up my current favorite styles to achieve all those cool, classic Americana vibes (I mean I’m not cool at all, but here’s to hoping these jeans help 🙂 )
501 Original – If I had to pick a favorite of the bunch, this would be it. Comfortable, no stretch, and looks great with some well placed rips and tears. I suggest a nice, wide cuff at the bottom.
501 CT – The boyfriend fit. These ride low on the hips and look effortless, never like you’re trying too hard. Just be aware that they do run a bit large so I would recommend sizing down. Also, they look best with something slim fitting on top, so you don’t get swallowed up!
Wedgie Fit – The ultimate high rise (aka super flattering), which seems to have magical properties. These look amazing paired with just about everything, especially cropped sweaters/tees or with a tucked in button down.
505 C – The classic rocker jean. I love to roll mine slightly at the bottom and pair with black ankle booties.
In the widget below I’ve linked to a few more of my top Levi’s picks and alternative washes. Have a great one!
