All the trends I’ll be loving…and skipping this season.
With the first official day of Fall only two days away and Fashion Month well underway, I figured it was as good a time as any to start talking about Fall trends. Trends are a funny beast because as much as I love a good staple item – think classic dark wash jeans, streamlined cardigans, white button downs, and little black dresses – there is something exciting about latching onto a new of the moment piece each season. However, due to the fickle nature of fashion as soon as you are fully onboard and own let’s say way too many off-the-shoulder tops to count – they are cycled out and new trend pieces are issued in. Sigh, such is the frustration. Thus, I have two rules that I subscribe to when it comes to buying trend driven garments: 1. Don’t spend an exorbitant amount – I love to shop for these pieces at places like Zara or even on sale at retailers like Club Monaco, J. Crew, and Madewell. 2. I don’t need to latch onto every single trend that comes along – go with the pieces that feel right to you and seamlessly blend with your personal style. Riffing off of that rule, in today’s post I’m walking through some of the top trends that I’ve seen for Autumn. They can all look fabulous when styled correctly, but naturally there are some that I am more drawn to than others. I’ve outlined the ones that I know will fit into my wardrobe easily, without making me feel like I’m wearing a costume – yet still manage to jazz up my daily wears. Also, for each category I’ve linked to some top finds should you be in need of inspiration. I hope you get to have some fun with Fall fashion and I would love to hear in the comments below which trends you are most excited about.
I know I’ve talked about blush and lavender on the blog – but big, bold red is truly the color of the season and I am quite happy about it. I think that anyone can pull off this color – it is beautiful and exudes confidence even on those days when you just are not feeling that 6am alarm clock.
The plush fabric is making a return from last year and I am thrilled as it gives me all the cozy, yet luxurious vibes. The soft and rich texture elevates any look and can easily be dressed up or down. Also, don’t limit yourself to clothes, keep in mind velvet shoes and accessories.
Possibly my number one love of the entire round up. I appreciate the subtle nod to the nineties and the fact that these can be worn season after season. Layer with a chunky sweater for Fall and you are all set. I think it is nearly safe to say that these are starting to veer into staple territory rather than simply a trend.
Denim trends come and go but this is one that I hope sticks around for awhile. I’m loving the higher waist with a cut off hem. It manages to look effortless and chic paired with some loafers and an oversized knit.
Florals are a mainstay in my wardrobe any time of year, but I love how they are popping up everywhere for Fall as well. Keep the backgrounds to a deep gray, black, or navy with a slightly bolder print and you are golden. The dark romantic vibe is very Withering Heights and I could not be more on board. My favorite iteration is a maxi dress in a light, flowing fabric.
A few trends that are huge right now but I’ll be passing on: kick flare jeans, corset style tops/sweaters, white boots, and baker hats. A little reminder that you don’t have to buy into everything, simply stay true to yourself – pick up fun pieces that excite you and already mesh with your personal style.
Have a great Hump Day!
