All the dainty treasures you could ever imagine.
I will admit – I am a bit of a jewelry addict. Ever since I was young, I have loved collecting and wearing unique pieces that add a touch of glimmer. Jewelry is unique in that it is truly sentimental – it can be passed down, you never grow out of it, and the story behind when it was given/received lives on forever. For me, my favorite trinkets have always provided that sense of daily “armor.” They also evoke a sense of calm when I look at them each day and remember where they came from. I personally have always been drawn toward tinier, more delicate items – I find that they can be worn all the time, without feeling tired and do not overwhelm your outfit, but rather provide a slight layer of interest. Over the years I have also learned that when it comes to jewelry, I prefer to save and invest in high quality, smaller pieces. Larger, trendier, and lower quality alternatives tend to tarnish quickly and as a result after a few wears I am no longer interested in them. Read on below for a round up of my favorite places to shop for these dainty, minimalist pieces which you can cherish forever.
Catbird – This is the store that started it all for me. I can still remember saving up to buy my first stacking ring in college and the delight that I felt when I opened up the small black box tied with a ribbon. Catbird originally gained recognition for their midi/stacking rings, which are absolutely lovely. Yet, they also offer so much more including some of my favorite barely there necklaces and earrings. This is also my go-to place for gift giving – in fact I gave each of my bridesmaids an initialed locket necklace and gave my mom these earrings last year for mother’s day. I have been lucky enough to visit their tiny, adorable, and beautifully arranged Brooklyn shop quite a few times and always find a new treasure to take home with me. However, if you don’t live near the New York area, their online service is exceptional. It’s normal to get overwhelmed here (I still do) and end up wanting one of everything. This, this, and these are my picks for getting started.
Ariel Gordon Jewelry – After discovering this LA based designer last year I saved up to purchase this stunning lariat necklace and I have never regretted it even for a second. It is a beautiful piece that goes with virtually everything and I always get asked where its from when I wear it. This is the necklace that I can be spotted wearing nearly every day and it layers beautifully with other small gold chains. This, this, and these are also on my wish list and would add the cutest whisper to any ensemble.
Missoma – A relatively new to me, British brand which I instantly fell head over heels for. I first discovered it through the London based blogger, Lucy Williams of Fashion Me Now. Her style is spot on and extremely inspirational. Once I learned that she did a collaboration with Missoma, I clicked on over and it was love at first sight. Unfortunately the collaboration was limited edition and has since been discontinued. Yet, some of the pieces were so popular that it looks like they have added them to their permanent line. I have this horn necklace and am very happy with it. It is easy to pair with pretty much everything in my wardrobe and just adds a little sparkle to all tops from V necks to turtlenecks. This necklace and these earrings seem to be calling my name as well.
Vrai & Oro – This line is unique as it sells high quality, wearable pieces at a less expensive price point. They use a direct to consumer model and cut out the middleman to allow them to sell beautiful diamond and gold jewelry at a less gut wrenching cost. I can personally attest to the quality of their goods as I purchased these teeny, tiny studs a few years ago and am thrilled with them. They are great for placing in additional ear/cartilage piercings and won’t look bulky or draw too much attention. Next up, this, these, and this..
Meira T – Last year at Valentine’s Day Andrew surprised me with this necklace. I instantly adored everything about it – from the delicate diamonds to the evil eye, it is a good luck charm that I can wear every day. Many of their pieces are pricier, but would be such a wonderful gift for a momentous occasion. Also, I believe that they can be found at Bloomingdale’s and Nordstrom, which is always nice as you can feel and try on the jewelry before committing. This and this look stunning.
Tiffany & Co – Now this one may seem obvious, I mean it’s Tiffany’s. However, not everyone necessarily realizes that the famous jeweler stocks more than just grand, extremely expensive wears. They also have lines that feature daintier, every day sparklers, which still live up to Tiffany’s high quality standards. For instance, as a milestone marker, I purchased this tiny diamond at my one year work anniversary and still love it to this day. It is a timeless piece that will never go out of style and always reminds me of that time in my life. This and these would also be great picks. There is still something so exhilarating about opening the Tiffany blue box and I also like the fact that pretty much no matter where you are, you can take your pieces in store and they will clean them up to look sparkly and brand new.
**Bonus – Fred and Far Self Love Pinky Ring – I read about these rings in this article and although I have not yet made a purchase myself, I think one might be next on my wish list. It is such a thoughtful concept and a great token/reminder of self appreciation and gratitude.
A novel later, that about sums up my top jewelry picks/designers. Overall, you can see that I tend to lean more towards tiny, yellow gold pieces that can be layered as that it what suits my personality best. However, all of these featured designers also offer white gold and silver treasures that are just as stunning. I hope that you were able to find something new on this list to check out, maybe to reward yourself for reaching a milestone, accomplishment, or just as a small token of self love.
